A RETIRED RAF squadron leader has used the help of some unusual ladies to raise money for a military charity.

The ladies, who are a flock of 13 laying hens and three ducks, belongs to Brian Gibbs of Woolaston who has decided to sell the eggs he and his family don't eat to raise money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

Sqn Ldr Gibbs, who retired in 2005, decided to support the charity after his father – also an RAF veteran – received a mobility scooter and storage facilities from the fund.

"We are well-stocked with eggs, so I've started selling our extra eggs to family, friends, and work colleagues," said Sqn Ldr Gibbs. "I thought it would be a cracking good idea to donate the funds raised to the RAF Benevolent Fund. I was aware of the work they did, but then saw firsthand how they helped my father when he was in need."
