FOREST novelist and internationally-renowned author Andrew Taylor has launched his new book at the Forest Bookshop.

The Coleford man was joined by his family and staff at the Coleford-based shop where he discussed and signed copies of his new thriller, The Silent Boy.

Set during the French Revolution, The Silent Boy concerns a mute child who becomes the unwitting centre of a murderous custody battle.

Andrew said: "The Sunday Times, which has already reviewed it, praises its 'mastery of plot and character' and says it 'has a depth few other historical crime novels can match.' Who am I to argue?

"There were lavish refreshments, beaming faces and sparkling conversation." The Forest Bookshop has hosted the launch of many of Andrew's books published since 1982, including The Anatomy of Ghosts, Bleeding Heart Square, Fallen Angel and The American Boy.

Forest Bookshop manager, Ian Claridge added: "Our last Andrew Taylor book launch was 18 months ago for his quite brilliant The Scent of Death, which transported readers to British New York in 1778.

"It's fantastic that he continues to support his local bookseller, and we are very happy to reciprocate by celebrating his work. We have a dedicated Andrew Taylor shelf in our thrillers section, and unlike other shops, we can arrange for any of his books to be signed by him next time he pops in. It is, however, a big event when a new novel comes out."
