Youngster Andrew Fletcher, aged seven, of Lydney, thought he had seen the last of his toy puppy when he dropped it while visiting a car boot sale at Coleford.

With mum, Mandy, he searched the field for his much loved "pet" but without success.

Mandy had just a faint hope someone might help if she advertised the missing puppy in the 'LOST' section of the Review. She did – and came up trumps.

Not only did she get the missing toy back but Andrew had several offers of others as a replacement.

At 5pm last Wednesday Mandy had her first call. It was from Gary Tovey from Tartaglias, who had been selling ice creams at the car boot sale and was handed the toy by a woman. Gary told Mandy he had been wondering what to do with it all week!

Mandy said: " It didn't stop there. A lovely lady rang me from Cinderford to say that a year ago her husband had bought her a Beany Pup and that Andrew was very welcome to have it if his wasn't returned.

"Later on three more calls came. A lady from Ross-on-Wye and another from Berry Hill rang offering their Beany Pups and then another lady rang to say she had found Beany Pup at the car boot sale and given it to the ice cream man!"

She added: "It is lovely to know there are such kind-hearted people about and Andrew and I would like to thank all of those who called for their kind offers."
