MEMBERS of Woolaston Women’s Institute welcomed some familiar faces as they celebrated the centenary of the organisation.
An anniversary tea was held last Wednesday (September 16) at Woolaston Memorial Hall – exactly 100 years to the day of the first meeting in Britain which took place at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch on Anglesey.
Edna Hicks, who is 96 and has been associated with the WI for more than 60 years, cut a special anniversary cake.
Delicious cake and savouries were served on vintage china and there was even a celebratory glass of Champagne.
The members were also entertained by local singing group Take Six which comprises Lesley Wreford, Janice Robinson, Lorna Harris, Joyce Marshall, Maureen Howard and accompanist Rosemary Lewis.
Preparations are underway for the 70th anniversary of Woolaston WI next year.
