CHARCOAL and timber off-cuts which were created from the destruction of the Giant’s Chair sculpture, are to be made available to artists by the Forestry Commission in partnership with the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail.

The distribution of the materials will take place on January 23 and 24 at Beechenhurst, from 10am until 4pm.

The wood will be available on a first-come first-served basis.

A hundred bags of charcoal, recently created at a charcoal burning event, will be available on that weekend, as part of Charcoal Works, an initiative to create on online gallery of artworks, led by Onya McCausland.

For anyone who cannot attend to collect charcoal, some may be available by post in January.

Artists who would like to apply for posted charcoal are asked to register their interest by emailing [email protected].

Some charcoal may also be available in Cheltenham and London.

The charcoal artworks created will be posted online at www.turninglasndscape.com/charcoal-works.

There is also a Twitter page dedicated to Charcoal Works at @turningland.
