LIKE the whole nation, I have waited with baited breath for constructive action to be taken against those involved in the expenses fiasco which involved all political parties, all as bad as one another.

Many on both sides have said they will not stand at the next election. That's easy to understand, none are trusted and would not be re-elected anyway. Many are hanging on to fill their pockets.

Where is Mark Harper in this? At a political meeting I asked a high-ranking politician why those found with their hands in the till are still in office. I was told, if they were dismissed there would be no-one left to run the country.

I thought at first it was a joke, but he was serious. Why have there been no investigations into local councils, district, county and full time officers expenses, and jobs made up since the last district elections.

In a year we will have a general election and I have yet to see a constructive manifesto. I also note the comments of Mark Harper regarding Marion Winship, who states he does not interfere with local district elections, so I can assume it was some form of apparition I saw hovering about at the last election.

One thing I am sure of, they are all as bad as each other irrespective of political views. I would ask who the Conservative party has in mind to replace her ladyship, I could make some suggestions. I would not be surprised if it was not another who has just come down the M4. I suppose we must be grateful for small mercies, like swine flu, which has diverted the attention from M.P's expenses for duck house building to mole hunting and a host of other crackpot ideas. Is it any wonder the Conservative party rules the roost with no opposition?

I have noticed the passing of the great first world war man Harry Patch, many of my family and others gave their lives. When I look around and see the ones we have in politics now, irrespective of party, I say "Was it worth it?" – Mike Meredith-Edwards, Sling.
