IT was annoying to see Labour councillors in the Asda support group as the Co-operative movement has always given financial support to the Labour Party which had similar aims.
They should remain neutral as many others here are. Division is not wanted.
And the Conservatives! Mark Harper MP wrote to the Midcounties chief executive Ben Reid. The head of the district council to the chairman of the Co-op Group, a new boy with his own worries.
A Parliamentary question was answered by the Welsh woman stating that the government does not aim to support incumbent firms against fair competition.
So no progress there.
Instead of (council leader) Patrick Molyneux blaming "the Co-op" for the heavy legal costs incurred by the council's flouting of planning regulations spotted by the Co-op's lawyers, why not take responsibility and approach the various lawyers with a full and honest apology?
The site on Valley Road or Steam Mills or wherever it is supposed to be is far from ideal. It is out-of-town and will bring traffic problems.
Why were Woolworths and Beales not offered to a supermarket. Why not land on the industrial estate as happens frequently in other areas?
