VITAL resurfacing work spanning a month on the A48 has now been completed.

The news came as a relief to many commuters across the Forest who has faced daily traffic disruption reaching their destinations.

The road reopened fully on Saturday morning with Stagecoach bus services returning to normal.

It is reported that Gloucestershire Highways crews have laid at least 3,000 tonnes of new road material across the six mile stretch of road within the scheduled deadline.

Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways said: "I would like to thank crews for all their hard work getting this vital resurfacing job done to schedule. It is one of the biggest schemes we have done this year and I know at times conditions have been very challenging.

"I would also like to thank people for their patience while we have carried out this essential work improving the condition of the road. I hope residents and commuters are pleased with the end result."

Richard Leppington, county councillor for Blakeney and Bream added: "I would like to compliment highways teams on doing a very good job in very difficult circumstances. It is great to see it finished on time and I would like to thank Forest commuters for their patience during the works."
