TEN members of Blakeney Tae Kwon-do felt a bit of a draught on Sunday as they had their heads shaved completely for charity.

Paula Webb, who runs the club with her 17-year-old daughter Zoe, said: “It’s our third birthday as a group and we wanted to mark that moment. Brave the Shave is a national campaign to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Zoe and I have a good friend with two rare forms of cancer. We wanted to show our support to him and everyone in the group had their own reasons for taking part as we’ve been touched by cancer in different ways.”

The youngest person to brave the shave was 10-year-old Scott Byng: “He’s an amazing little boy and the only one of our junior members to take part,” Paula added.

“Our goal was to raise £2,000 but we’ve nearly reached that amount already and we don’t yet have everyone’s money in yet. Zoe and I have around £1,500 in pledges and the event on Sunday raised another £281 with refreshments, a raffle and one of our members drawing caricatures to raise funds.”

“The reaction from friends has been great. I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved and I’m even considering keeping my head bare now. Zoe’s feeling the cold though and has been wearing a woolly hat today.”

Zoe’s boss Claire Harris, at the Coffee House in Bathurst Park, added: “This is such a brave thing for a 17- year-old to do. We want to help Zoe raise as much as she can so we will have a collecting tin in the cafe for the next couple of weeks.”
