FOREST Foodbank volunteers saw almost 50 per cent more donations on last year at an annual collection in Lydney.

Tesco shoppers generously donated just over 950kg (2,095lb) in food which will help approximately 100 people.

The seventh annual collection was held at the beginning of the month and organised by Tesco with Trussell Trust Foodbank and Fareshare.

Sandi McDonagh, of Forest Foodbank, said: “We had our best-ever collection. Last Christmas we collected 670.2kg (1,478lb). Tesco even collected on Sunday for us and, of course, they gave us 30 per cent on top of our collection.

“I would estimate the collection will provide food for approximately 100 people but with all our supplies we will probably feed about 200 people over the festive season.

“We can’t thank the public enough for their generosity and ongoing support.”
