THE Chepstow division of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) raised £1,600 at their annual Big Brew Up in Chepstow last week, serving hot drinks and cakes in exchange for a donation to the charity. 

Divisional secretary, Christopher Wilson said: “Refreshments were offered by SSAFA volunteers and 1st Battalion, The Rifles (1 RIFLES) based in Beachley and were served to the public in the town.

“We’d like to offer a great vote of thanks to both the 1 RIFLES and to Barclays Bank, whose staff also joined us on the day, for their considerable support. The public were clearly very proud of the Riflemen, led by Sergeant Alan Fuller, and enjoyed seeing them in the town.

“We had valuable help from Jo, the wife of 1 RIFLES commanding officer, and Captain Mitch Mitchell, the unit welfare officer, together with his family. For every pound donated, Barclays added a further pound, which made a huge difference to the amount we raised.”
