A BIFFA bin man was rushed to hospital last week after the lorry he was working from collided with him and ‘crushed’ his foot.
Corey Jones, aged 20, from Cinderford, only started working for the waste services firm three weeks ago.
His sister Aimee said on Facebook: “His foot was completely crushed and broken. I just hope and pray he gets on the mend soon.”
The incident happened at around 8.50am on Littledean Hill Road, in Cinderford, causing police to close the road between Dockham Road and the junction at Littledean Hill and Belle Vue Road.
A spokesperson for Biffa said: “One of our bin collection staff was injured when he came into contact with the green waste collection vehicle.
“At the time, the vehicle and its crew were collecting and emptying residents’ garden waste bins.
“The member of staff is believed to have suffered an injury to his ankle and was taken to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for assessment and treatment. His condition is described as stable.
“The ambulance service and police attended the scene and, as a result of the accident, the road was closed between Dockham Road and at the junction of Littledean Hill and Belle Vue Road. It re-opened shortly afterwards when attending police had concluded their enquiries.
“The incident is being fully investigated by Biffa’s local managers, safety experts and local police. The health and safety executive will be informed.”
