CAGE bird enthusiasts flocked to Drybrook's Memorial Hall on Sunday for the annual Cinderford and District Cage Bird Society Show.

"Judging took place in the morning and the hall was open to the public in the afternoon. I have to say when we opened the doors it was a shock to see so many people," said club spokesperson Sally Wyatt.

It was a departure from the normal for the club – one of the longest established in the Forest and now the last to survive – to hold the annual 'open' show outside the town.

"We worried about the move to Drybrook but now we are so pleased we did. The support from the public was amazing. It was so successful we have already booked the hall for next year," said Sally.

The club has members from all parts of the Forest and from further afield including South Wales and Hereford. "There has been fresh interest with a lot of younger members," said Sally.

The 'Open' show attracted over 300 entries with exhibitors from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.

"It was the best show for many years. The support from all quarters was overwhelming and the club would like to thank everyone who turned up for making it such a success," said Sally.
