DOUBLE the number of vases were filled this year, compared to last, at the Lydney Chrysanthemum Show.

Treasurer of the Forest of Dean Chrysanthemum Society, Bruce Reed, said the show on Saturday at the Lydney Masonic Hall was well-attended.

A beautiful display of Fantasies – grown by Bruce – caught the eye of visitors and was quite appropriately awarded the Best Fantasy in Show cup. He also received the Best Anemone in Show cup and Most Points in Show trophy.

He said: “The Fantasies are a new variety and in one class there were nine entries. Everybody remarked how beautiful they looked.”

He added: “A good number of people attended and provided a pleasant atmosphere. The raffle made a good profit.”

Mike Shepherd travelled from Somerset to judge the show. The Best Vase in Show cup, NCS (National Chrysanthemum Society) silver medal and Best Reflex in Show award went to Adrian Roberts, with five red Woolman Ventures.

The runner-up of the Best Vase in Show, NCS bronze medal, and Best Intermediate in Show was Arthur Wilks, with his five Roy Cooplands.

Certificate of Merits went to Adrian Roberts with three Lundys, which also won Best Jap in Show cup, and Arthur Wilks, with five Kay Woolmans, also taking the Best Incurved in Show cup.

The Forest of Dean Chrysanthemum Society is always looking for new recruits.
