Enclosed by powerful waters
of Severn and Wye,
The Forest of Dean snuggles safely
as the frantic world flies by.
Yet, in this tranquil haven
roam a particular porcine group,
determined males to occupy and
pull off a piggy coup.
Amid revered traditions, old ethics reign supreme,
who would think such thoughts exist in
the peaceful Forest of Dean?
Free-miner's rights are not writ in
coal or stone or lime,
this would seem to cause a threat to
those of the chauvinist kind.
While boys go out to battle, explore and have some fun,
who is keeping up with chores,
ensuring all is done.
Till the land, mend the ploughs, make the bullets, milk the cows,
tend the hay and arm the tanks,
manage the business and run the banks?
This is doggerel of caution to those intent on heaven,
a quote from the stalwart Guardian in 1997
suggested that men who achieve a long and prosperous life
are inevitably supported by a totally exhausted wife.
To those of us who postulate position
in gentlemen's clubs and arcane halls of erudition,
consideration may examine courtesy and conduct,
respect for one and all.
Everyone is entitled to a chance to catch the ball.
Prudent then, perhaps to remember who is responsible for our gender.
An essence more powerful than man.
– Keep up the fun!
