ON Wednesday October 12 Brian Probert, of Goode Court, Lydney, was presented with a Certificate of Merit recording 50 years service to The Royal?British Legion, Lydney branch.
He has served on both the Branch and Service committees besides being the sports secretary, arranging whist, domino, crib, pool and snooker matches for both social and charitable benefits.
He has served under the greats such as John Watts, Melville Watts, Tom Goode, Sid Gresty, Tom Wilding, Bill Johns and many others giving them all his personal support.
Through the Service Committee he has and still does carry out many "sick" visits each month to both hospitals and home addresses. Each visit is accompanied with a small gift made up of either biscuits, fruit, tea bags, coffee etc. This service is very important and appreciated by all, especially the recipients.
Besides welfare work, he has been an ardent member of the "Poppy Collections" each year and it is believed that his grand total is in the region of £10,000.
Brian is as keen today as in his first year and plans to continue with the good work for the foreseeable future.
His efforts are most welcome and of great importance to the community. His dedicated work is greatly admired and applauded.
– F. Bennett, chairman, Welfare Committee.
