DEAN Academy students in Lydney have been given nearly 500 bricks to complete a ‘course’ work project.

Construction company David Wilson Homes supplied the bricks when they found out that students were facing a shortage.

As part of their WJEC Construction Level Two qualification the students have to rebuild a corner of the damaged wall, complete with ties into an existing door frame.

Sarah Scanion, sales advisor at the company’s Thurston’s Rise development in Coleford, said: “We met the pupils earlier this month when they visited as part of their studies and were so impressed with their enthusiasm and interest in the construction industry. When we heard they were in need of a helping hand we were happy assist.”

Andrew Winstanley, director of the art, design and production faculty at the Dean Academy, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the generous donation. The students were thrilled and the quality of their work has increased since getting their hands on the new materials. It’s great to have the support of local businesses and who knows, some of the students could even go to work for the company in coming years.”
