A REPORT into the condition of a bridge over the River Wye will be made public once it is complete, says Gloucestershire County Council.

The bridge at Lydbrook, which is known locally as the Black Bridge, was closed on safety grounds but recently erected fencing has led to concerns in the village that the closure could be permanent.

That also led to calls for the condition report, which is currently being prepared, be made public.

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire County Council said: “Once we have a copy of the report it will become public as we’re sharing it with the parish council.”

Lydbrook Parish Council will discuss the future of the bridge, which is part of the Wye Valley Walk, at its meeting on Monday (September 12) and councillors have invited the county council’s Cabinet member for highways, Cllr Vernon Smith (Con, Tewkesbury) to attend the meeting.

It is not yet clear when the report into the bridge’s condition will be available.
