JAKE Michaels and Rebecca Johnstone were the stars of the Newent School swimming gala, but teachers say they are proud of the community spirit all the pupils showed.
Jake is in year nine and holds the 800m freestyle record for his age group in the county championships.
Rebecca swims for Gloucester City and says she hopes to swim in the nationals.
She said: "I have currently achieved Regional, County and South West Championships. This means that I am just one step away from the nationals.
"Recently I competed at Cardiff Internationals where I got a regional time for 50m butterfly.
"My training program requires me to train eight times a week but at the moment I am finding it a difficult balance because of my GCSEs and school work. However I am trying to find a solution to this.
"I would like to say thank you to my friends, family and teachers who have supported me throughout the time I have been swimming. I hope that I will make you all proud someday."
