I HAVE never written to the Review before but as someone who has lived here for more than 50 years and loves the Dean, I feel I have to put pen to paper and raise some questions, valid ones, about the Lydney station and the serious lack of facilities.
Why were other interested parties refused permission to develop the site? One of the parties put forward plans to turn the eyesore into a garden centre, cafe and toilets. They also agreed to work with the bus companies.
What are we left with? Nothing. Why, when a large amount of public money was spent, was there no provision for seating? Coleford and Cinderford have these facilities. Why is Lydney singled out for no seating? We have a wall to sit on.
Why wasn't any thought given to passengers from the trains? Especially at weekends they have to wait at least two and a half hours for the first bus.
When coaches come to Lydney what provision is made for them? At the moment the only impression visitors get is that of a dump and a car park.
Why was Lydney Dial-a-Ride the only preferred bidder? How does community transport work with the other buses? What routes are they using? When does it operate? Most importantly, how much does it cost? Do the passengers have to pay the same amount as Dial-a-Ride?
I hope these questions can be answered as passengers are fed-up and bewildered as to why our needs are constantly overlooked. Finally what use are chairs in a shop? At least when Bevan's had the office there were adequate seating facilities when it rained.
