THE FIGHT by a tenants' group against the attempt by Two Rivers Housing to impose grass cutting charges on homeowners in the Forest cost more than £62,000 it has been revealed.
A fighting fund was set up to help those caught up in the legal action and the campaign team has now issued a breakdown of the costs.
A summary judgement on the issue in June 2011 effectively meant that Two Rivers's case against the defendants – people who refused to pay the charges – was thrown out but an appeal was later granted.
The fighting fund committee says a total of £62,074.76 was spent with its Glouceser-based solicitors and that £51,500 was recovered from Two Rivers in costs, leaving a shortfall of £10,574.76.
With the award of £7,000 to Two Rivers for the appeal the total to be covered by the fighting fund was £17,574.76.
The fund raised £16,172.14, leaving a shortfall of £1,402.62. The fighting fund committee says agreement has been reached on the shortfall.
