A WOMAN whose mum died of pancreatic cancer raised a bumper £8,343 for Macmillan Cancer Support from her third charity golf day.
Jackie Bradley, of Eastbach, English Bicknor, hosted 27 teams at Bells Hotel & Country club where she has been playing for five years.
And the sum raised means the total from all three golf days is now nearly £20,000.
Jackie, who lost her mum to the disease eight years ago, says Macmillan is very close to her heart having cared for her mother and supported the family towards the end of her life.
Teams finishing first, second and third won prizes, alongside the player who got nearest the pin.
This year, as well as the ‘Beat the Pro’ competition, there was also the chance to win a car if a player got a hole in one thanks to Five Acres Garage in Coleford.
Other prizes included a raffle, auction and ‘guess the square’ to win a wheelbarrow of booze.
Jackie also managed to secure £2,000 in matched funding from Barclays Bank, which was a huge boost for the overall total raised this time.
This year the money will be used to support local cancer services in Gloucestershire, including the Macmillan Information and Support Centre at Gloucester Royal Hospital, which opened in September 2018.
The information centre provides access to cancer information, practical advice and emotional support to anyone affected by cancer.
If needed, the team at the centre will also signpost onto other local services that could help people affected by cancer.
The centre displays a wide range of useful information covering subjects from awareness of cancer, signs and symptoms to diagnosis and tests, treatment and side effects.
All resources available at the centre are provided free of charge.
Jemma Luker, Macmillan Fundraising Manager covering the Forest of Dean, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Jackie the last couple of years.
“She puts so much hard work in to hold an incredibly successful day.
“It was fantastic to be able to say thank you to Jackie on the evening of her golf day and you can clearly see the appreciation everyone has for her.”
