ALMOST £2,000 raised from a charity fundraiser at a Forest village pub – held in memory of a local man – has been donated to Mitcheldean Surgery.
Landlord of the White Horse in Mitcheldean held a fun day in May to coincide with what would have been Rob Mace’s birthday. He passed away last year.
Close friend and one of the event organisers, Sandra Beard said: “Rob was an amazing chap whose catchphrase was ‘it’s nice to be nice’.
“His lovely wife, Bev, wanted to do something in recognition of the outstanding care Rob received from the doctors and nurses. Without them he wouldn’t have been able to spend his last days at home – which was something they both really wanted.”
The fun day involved a barbecue and stalls while the evening kicked off with entertainment courtesy of Brian Beard, a raffle and an auction.
Sandra added: “Local businesses and friends were extremely generous with donations of prizes and everyone dug deep in their pockets to raise £1,850 to help Mitcheldean Surgery and the community nurses’ equipment fund.
“Sincere thanks to everyone involved, in particular Andy Baker landlord of The White Horse who came up with the idea.”
