CHEPSTOW'S Warren Slade Wood has seen an extensive makeover, with a new view point with seats being created, which has revealed a 'fabulous' outlook over the River Wye and across the Severn, while seats have also been placed along the adjoining Wales Coastal Path.

In addition, pupils from Thornwell Primary School have also been involved with the project, with their Year Two pupils creating drawings on the theme of 'tranquility', which have been turned into physical sculptures by artist Tony Ford of Oakdale Iron Works, based near Newport.

The sculptures, in metal, have been placed around the wood – with many of them in trees to pose a challenge for walkers to spot them.

The final sculpture, a large River Wye salmon, is covered in scales that have been individually made, and which are marked with the initials of the children involved in the project.

Overseen by Monmouthshire County Council's Countryside Service, the project was funded through the Welsh Government 'Tranquil, Greener and Cleaner' initiative, and Chepstow Town Council, (who paid for three of the benches), and aims to make the woods more welcoming to people.
