THE young singers of Pillowell Primary School have added yet more glitter to their already shining achievements.
Or to be precise more tinsel, for they have just cut a music CD of their singing to be distributed to other Forest schools as part of Operation Christmas Child.
Organiser Don Dickenson, who also wrote some of the songs sung by the choir, told the Review: "The CD will help other pupils in other schools as they prepare shoeboxes of gifts for deprived children in other parts of the world."
He said the 'Love in a Shoebox' drive would be starting in the autumn and hopefully many schools in the area would once again be taking part.
Pillowell Choir has already taken part in a prestigious London concert – a recording has also been made of this.
The latest recording was made at Dean Hall School with the help of Simon Tolley and among young singers who took part were Jordan Hope, Emily Phipps, Katie Watkins, Jessica D'Andrea, Emma Halford, Sarah Nancollas, Lucy Newport, Lucy Powell, Jessica Turley, Amy Watts, Jamie Hope, Jack Watts and Robert Nancollas.
The words of one of their songs are:
Christmas is a special time for all the girls and boys
Each should have some presents, lovely gifts with games and toys
But some will be so lonely, and some be cold and sad,
How can we, who have so much, make a child glad?
The Operation Christmas Child charity is part of the worldwide Samaritan's Purse organisation.
Anyone who would like to take part in this year's shoebox campaign can contact Don Dickenson on 01594 542060 – efforts by schools, churches, groups and individuals are all welcome.
