PUPILS at a Chepstow school have been celebrating Christmas with a difference this year.

Year Six pupils at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School organised a Santa’s Workshop Day, to enable pupils to take part in new and different experiences celebrating the festive season.

Supported by their class teacher, Miss Charlotte Smith, the children developed a range of Christmas-related activities, such as designing fitness programmes for reindeer, marshmallow roasting and learning about how Christmas is celebrated in other parts of the world.

Chair of governors, Cllr Paul Pavia, said: “The aim was to expose pupils to experiences that they may not normally have the opportunity to have, which is one of the key elements of the new Donaldson Curriculum that will be rolled out across Wales in the next few years.

“All the pupils who took part enjoyed this new style of learning. The day was finished off with meeting the reindeers and donkey, eating lots of Christmas treats and drinking hot chocolate to keep warm.

“The school would like to thank all parents and grandparents for supporting this event, which also raised £174.65 towards the Year Six France trip in 2018.”
