I HAVE read with some amusement the letters recently published regarding the Christmas tree in Lydney.

I live in Lydney but grew up in Coleford. I was therefore privileged to enjoy the wonderful light display in Coleford each year at Christmas time.

Lydney always has been a poor comparison, although I have always felt the layout of Coleford, with its clock tower made it more ideal as a setting and backdrop.

I was therefore actually quite pleased to see the tree outside the Co-op and actually see it as a positive addition to the normally fairly mundane bunch of decorations.

It is a massive improvement and is actually a lovely classy looking tree.

I am surprised by one of the  responses in your paper suggesting it should be taken to the tip.

What a shame there are such miseries out there. Come on humbug – enjoy other people's efforts instead of moaning at them.
