WITH reference to a letter in last week’s newspaper quoting my name, councillors’ letters of resignation are readily available under the Freedom of Information Act, as is my personal letter of resignation.
Therefore, I entirely agree with the anonymous writer, I am surprised there have not been more resignations from the council.
By virtue of these revealing statements, why should I want to apply to become a councillor, as suggested, under such prevailing conditions?
Some time ago I brought to the attention of the council the dangerous state of the potholes at Lydney Lake.
I believe these are a hazard to the general public, particularly the disabled, who regularly frequent the area for pleasure.
Some 12 months have elapsed and this situation has still not been resolved.
In this respect, the efficient individual or teamwork of the council, as claimed by the nameless writer, has certainly not been evident.
However, I am not in a position to pursue this issue any further as I have been advised by the council that: “Cllr/Trustee Legg (or indeed any other Member) will not respond to you directly in respect of this matter given it has already been considered/addressed by the Trust (which is obviously not the case); any/all correspondence should instead be directed to this office (that of the CEO).”
In other words I have been “closed down.” This appears completely contrary to Lydney Town Council’s policy of encouraging community involvement.
Was this sanctioned by councillors? If so how do they expect the electorate to engage with them, or is this how they want the council administered?
– Gordon Blake, Lydney.
