Coleford
EVERY Colefordian must be mourning the demise of the once most picturesque, thriving town in the Forest.
Why was it decided to 'rip the guts' out of the town centre and move it to Pyart Court, a characterless, depressing collection of shapes, masquerading as shops?
There were a wealth of small shops in Coleford, all different shapes and sizes, each exuding their own charm and character. The number of empty shops is now growing. Will these in turn become yet more estate agents', charity shops, residential accommodation, or just allowed to fall into disrepair making the centre look like the ghost town it is fast becoming?
Surely the money that has been and will be spent could have been used to preserve Coleford's history and charm, not its destruction. – Mrs J. Bick, Sunny Bank, Coleford.
Blindmanshire
I REFER to your article on pages 20/21 in the Review dated September 10 about Pillowell.
Where is this place called Blimeshire in Pillowell? I have never heard of it, although I was brought up in Pillowell as a child.
There was a place called Blindmanshire, which I remember well, which consisted of a row of terraced houses (now demolished). Many people who lived there years ago, and still do, will confirm this.
Yes, it was definitely Blindmanshire. – Mrs P. Watkins, Driffield Road, Lydney.
