YOUNG actors preparing for their school production of Lionel Bart’s classical musical Oliver have received a very special boost.

Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean will stage its version of the award-winning show from tonight (Wednesday) until Friday.

The cast received a boost when a signed photo was received from Mark Lester who defined the title role in the classic 1968 film.

The signed black and white picture (left) of Mark on the set of the film reads: “To the pupils of Dene Magna School. Good luck with Oliver. Best wishes Mark Lester.”

The school’s production features Joshua Rolfe in the title role.

Among the other lead roles are Betsy Beard as the Artful Dodger, Gideon Harris as Fagin, Josh Goodson-Williams as Mr Bumble, Lily Motson as Nancy and Alex Lewis as Bill Sykes.
