A family day out turned into a day from hell for a Chepstow couple after their six-year-old dog was involved in an alleged unprovoked attack.
The owner of the Jack Russell, who asked not to be named, told the Review that while she and her partner were sat having lunch at Chepstow Show around 1.30pm, a Mastiff-size dog came from behind and grabbed her dog by the scruff of the neck and shook it like a 'ragdoll'.
Now she is appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have seen the attack or taken pictures on their mobile phone.
She said: "The attack, witnessed by many people, was vicious and resulted in our dog being taken into intensive care in a critical condition, where she stayed for two nights. To our amazement, the owners of the other dog disappeared as quickly as they could without bothering to stop and find out how serious the extensive injuries were.
"We understand that some mobile phone pictures of the incident were taken and urge people to contact police with evidence. Our concern is that the next victim could be a small child. The attack lasted for around a minute and it has cost us almost £1,000 in veterinary bills to help Ivy recover. It was absolutely terrifying."
Anybody with any information can call the police on 101 quoting incident number 388 of August 9.
