A PENSIONER couple who were injured in a four-car collision near a busy dual carriageway roundabout have thanked emergency services and members of the public who rushed to help them.

Nigel and Gillian Bailey, both 79, are ‘slowly’ recovering from the crash which happened on Saturday, December 22, near the Labels A40 roundabout in Ross-on-Wye.

And they asked granddaughter Marie Tucker to post an update on the Ross Notice Board Facebook group to say thanks to those who helped.

She said: “My grandparents were the ones that got hit on Saturday by Labels, and they would like me to post on their behalf.”

The couple said: “Our grateful thanks to all the services that attended the accident on Saturday, December 22 by Labels island, particularly Tom, the paramedic, Simon (a witness at the scene), the lady who gave me a big kiss, I liked that, and the wonderful doctors and staff at Hereford General Hospital acident and emergency department.

“Our grateful thanks, Nigel and Gillian.”

Following the crash, Marie had posted: “Thank you to everyone who stopped to help following the accident. My grandparents were the ones that got hit. They are both very sore but are at least home x.”

The crash, which was attended by the Midlands Air Ambulance, happened on the eastbound side of the road coming from Wilton at around 11.30am in heavy traffic ahead of Christmas, with road users delayed for up to an hour.

An ambulance, a Community First responder car, and a paramedic officer also responded to the call.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said five people suffered minor injuries, but one man and a second patient were taken to hospital for further checks.

Mr Bailey suffered back and neck ligament injuries and he and his wife suffered injured ribs and bruising.
