A TWO-vehicle collision on a Forest crossroads in which one person was seriously injured has led to renewed calls for safety improvements.
The collision happened at the Cannop crossroads near Coleford last Wednesday (November 26) at about 5.35pm.
It involved a silver Ford Focus being driven by a 65-year-old local man travelling along New Road in the general direction of Parkend and a black Skoda Octavia estate car being driven in the direction of Cinderford by a 41-year-old man who was also local to the area.
Both drivers and a passenger in the Ford Focus were taken to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
The 65-year-old Focus passenger was released from hospital the following day (Thursday, November 27) but the seriously injured driver of the Ford remained in hospital where his condition was described as stable.
The driver of the Skoda was released from hospital following the collision.
Angela Parker, who runs the Pygmy Pinetum garden centre near the crossroads, said improvements to the crossroads were needed urgently.
She said: "There have been a lot of crashes there.
"About 18 months ago the county council wrote to the people living nearby with options and we all said there should be a roundabout.
"The crossroads is at the bottom of two hills and a lot of traffic travels fast. A roundabout would slow traffic down.
"We've been here for 25 years and there have been accidents for 25 years.
"It happened just after we closed at 5.30pm.
"Other people stopped and helped – when there is an accident people are really generous with their time.
"Three people were injured and there is also the cost of the accident with ambulances, the police and the fire brigade."
Gloucestershire Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them, in particular anyone in a white van that was travelling in the same direction as the Skoda which stopped initially.
Investigators have also appealed for anyone who has a camera fitted to their car and were in the area to contact them on 101 quoting incident 397 of November 26.
