DAN Morgan ran four half marathons in a month – in between playing in a tough set of fixtures for Lydney Town Football Club.

Dan, who plays left back for the Hellenic League side, raised £800 for HomeStart Monmouthshire which supports families across the county.

He ran the Newport, Bath, Forest and World half marathons over 20 days in March for the Monmouth-based charity, starting with Newport on March 6, followed by Bath on March 13, the Forest on March 19 and the World race in Cardiff on March 26.

Dan, who lives in Chepstow, was joined by his mum, Sally Bearcroft for the last event.

He said: “I found the first two harder than the last two and playing football at the same time was tough.

“At one point we had a game on the Saturday and ran one of the half marathons on the Sunday, had another game on the Monday and another on the Wednesday.

“I’ve always been quite fit but I didn’t do a lot of training for these – I was relying on my base fitness to get me through and it did for most of them.

“Cardiff was tough because it chucked down and I was going across the Barrage at that point. The wind was a nightmare and I was wet all the way around.

“I thought the Forest of Dean would be tougher because it’s different terrain but I did my best time in that one.”

Dan said he wanted to support a local children’s charity so he chose Homestart.

He is already planning a challenge for next year which would involve five full marathons.
