THERE were lots to keep everybody’s spirits lifted over the Bank Holiday weekend despite the miserable weather in Bishopswood.

As usual, the village hall and church held its annual weekend of family fun including a duck race from Kerne Bridge.

The Songs of Praise service was forced inside where the theme of love was compiled and conducted by Rev Penny Powdrill, who was accompanied by Lydbrook Band.

Eight well-known hymns were sung by the sixty worshippers and were interspersed with eight readings. The afternoon concluded with cream teas.

Village hall committee member, Ann Jones said: “On Monday afternoon a large gathering of adults and children assembled. We had well-stocked stalls and sideshows including the ever-popular skittles and the free games and activities inside the hall.

“The ducks were released onto the Wye below Kerne Bridge and the owners of the winning ducks were Jenny Freeman, who came first, Terry Snow (in second) and Susan Hawker (in third).”

Monday’s celebrations concluded with a barn dance accompanied by “Banshee.”
