A MILKWALL man is warning residents an alleged diesel thief is on the loose after £500 worth of diesel was stolen from his lorry twice in one week.

HGV driver Graham Lewis says around 300 litres of diesel was siphoned out of his work lorry when it was parked on Station Road on September 28 and outside his home on Lambsquay Road overnight on October 2.

He said: "I have parked my lorry on Station Road at the weekend for 12 years and this is the first time I have had diesel stolen. After the theft I parked my lorry outside my home only to find the next morning the sender unit (which indicates the amount of fuel in the tank) had been undone and lifted about six inches – I knew diesel had been stolen. I was fuming as I'd only filled up the day before with 400 litres.

"Another driver had the same thing happen to him about a month ago. I want to warn people that somebody is going around stealing diesel in the area. We have now put up six additional cameras on Station Road."

Anybody who has any information should call the police on 101 quoting incident number 55.
