FOREST of Dean Dog Rescue is housing so many unwanted pets that it has had to make an urgent appeal for help with getting enough food for them.

"It is desperate. If we cannot feed these animals they will have to be put to sleep," says Helen Szuluk, adding that all types of feed are required – tins as well as dried complete food and biscuits. Money would also help.

Helen says the current financial situation is definitely having a big effect on the numbers of animals being abandoned or taken to her centre because the owners can no longer look after them.

"In fact I have taken so many in I am getting to the situation of actually having to pay owners to buy food so they can keep their pets at home," she says.

She has arranged drop-off points for food at Bream Court Farm, the Co-op in Cinderford and Drybridge Vets in Coleford. Alternatively people can call her on 01594 560670.

Helen would also like to hear from anyone prepared to take on a rescue dog.

"We have all sorts of dogs and there's bound to be one to suit you," she said. "They would all appreciate a loving home."
