Previously unbeaten and top of the league, Newnham's first-half display left a lot to be desired, said club spokesman Roger Parrish.
"Nicky (Marshall) brought himself and two more subs, Lee Brice and Carl Grindle, on in the second-half and we were much tighter. Nicky has a lot of experience and brings the best out of those around him," said Parrish.
"He has just started as manager this season and is doing really well. He wanted to see how others performed and had he played in the first-half it might have been a different story," he said.
"But he is doing very well. We now have floodlights up and he has got training going so things are looking pretty good."
Parrish said the manager's response to defeat was far from downbeat. "All he said was that it was a lesson to be learnt and that the team had to take it on the chin," said Parrish.
Before Saturday's defeat Newnham had three wins and a draw to their credit.
But they were effectively beaten by half-time as Bream scored through James Ward and Keith Patterson.
"Bream had a good passing game but I'm afraid we just did not play," said Parrish.
However he is optimistic the team will gain from the defeat and says football is going through a renaissance in the village with 20 of the 24 signed on living locally.
