A DOG owner has urged others to be vigilant after her pet became ill after eating what could have been drugs.
The woman from Yorkley, who does not want to be named, was walking her dog near the Mallard’s Pike beauty spot when it ate something at the base of a tree.
She said that 40 minutes later at home the animal was sick and brought up human excrement.
The woman told the Review: “She then became very spaced and unresponsive and quickly went off her legs.
“We got her to the vet who said she hadn’t been poisoned but it looked like she had consumed a very strong sedative.
“I then realised it was probably drugs from the excrement.
“The vet said ketamine or marijauna would do that to a dog.
“She was basically heavily sedated, her heart rate was slow, her eyes dilated and she was totally out of it.
“She wet herself in the night without even waking up
“She was given charcoal tablets to soak up anything remaining and to protect the lining of her stomach.
“Whatever she had consumed was by now well into her system and it was now a matter of just hoping she would recover,” added the dog owner.
“The following mor- ning the dog was able to walk but still not herself. Thankfully, after a few days of keeping her quiet, out of bright light and giving her the medication, she appears to have made a full recovery.
“This was an extremely frightening experience and if she hadn’t been such a fit and healthy young dog, the outcome might well have been tragic.
“I do not blame the dog because she was just being a dog and doing what dogs do.
“I would like to warn other dog owners that this stuff could be anywhere, so please be vigilant.
“Who knows what other hazards these irresponsible people have left behind without a care for the safety of others or the environment?
“I would not have dreamt it could happen here and I want to warn other dog owners and walkers.
“Unfortunately the words I would like to use to describe these people cannot be printed.”
