I WOULD like to thank all those members of the Coleford community and beyond who helped to make the World War One exhibition in Coleford such a success.

The teachers and pupils from Lakers, Berry Hill, Clearwell and St John's schools should be very proud of their achievements in producing such informative and well-presented displays.

Thanks also go to the various members of the community who contributed items from family collections. These can now be collected from the Coleford Town Council office.

The visitors' book contains fulsome praise and appreciation from local residents, British tourists and visitors from Holland, Australia, Switzerland and America.

Finally, thanks must go to the many members of the community who helped to supervise the exhibition over the five weeks that it was open and to Mr Clive Bath for allowing us to use his vacant shop premises.

Coleford Town Council is planning to hold further World War One commemorative events over the next four years, as well as create a dedicated memorial garden.

The costs of the exhibition have been largely met from a Lottery grant that was awarded to the town council.

– Cllr Iain Baird, Coleford.
