Hats off to Dr Daphne Pearson for her dogged determination over the issue of the healthcare Social Enterprise Trust.

I've run a Social Enterprise locally for six years and have watched two interpretations emerge.

One is a business which sees its own profit as the means to tackle social problems, the other is a business which sees public services as the means to profit.

The former pays tax for the latter to receive grants. The latter blocks the former from opportunity and soils the reputation of both.

In our work which aims to leverage local economic development, I've taken issues of public dishonesty to both our MP and MEP, yet neither have managed to resolve the problems.

Your front page story last week was of a girl with no experience unable to find work. I've spoken to others who include a graduate, though grateful to have work on a supermarket checkout, who has little to show for the three year investment in higher education.

We are blocked at every step, while the plans – although protected by copyright are soon served up under another brand.

It is time to speak up about the positive impact that can and has been made, if the media will permit the opportunity.
