I WRITE to you as the local ward member for the Newnham and Westbury ward, following your front page story 'Knackered' last week, which contained a number of factual inaccuracies.

In applying for the statutory nuisance order it has never been the intention to close Mr Yarworth's business down. In fact there has been every attempt from the start to find a practical solution.

The application for a court order is now necessary to protect local residents and visitors from the serious smell nuisance, which has affected the lives of local people for several years.

The needs of the farming community in this rural area are recognised and I understand the concerns of local farmers. I am aware that there is at least one other provider who offers carcass disposal in the area. I sincerely hope Mr Yarworth will be able to comply with the Interim Court Order and continue to operate his business so that it does not cause a serious nuisance to his neighbours.

Councillor Diana Edwards, local member.
