AS a resident of Hewelsfield I wish to voice my opinion regarding the recent festival.
There have been numerous articles in the press and on local radio commenting on this weekend. Local residents were not happy for the event to take place in an AONB area – it would affect the local economy, visitors to the area expecting peace and tranquillity would be met with hordes of travellers etc, inconvenience to residents/farmers, having to block off entrances to stop illegal parking, increased traffic on the very narrow lanes, even though Revellers were given clear instructions on how to travel to the site, using the B4228 or A48.
The Forest of Dean District Council allocated funds to this event, at our expense, without consulting us.
I wish to congratulate Chief Inspector Dean Walker and his force on the excellent policing at this event, it was obviously needed. Forty arrests, need I say any more?
I disagree with the press reports 'Heavy-handed policing.' I don't think so.
Remember Blaisdon '97, The Severn Revels, not welcome back their again! I wonder why?
The organisers of the Revels need to concentrate on finding a more suitable site. – J. Rickards, Hewelsfield.
