I WAS in a conversation the other day with a couple of friends when up popped the question: 'Where is the real centre of the Forest of Dean?'

We are led to believe it is at Speech House, but I thought it might make a good debating subject.

Through your columns we are asking this question: Is it definitely at the Speech House or, as someone suggested, Clearwell?

Surely someone out there, who has a better knowledge of the Forest than me, may give us the answer.

We know that the Speech House was the meeting place for the Verderers' Court, but is it actually in the centre? – Dave Bowkett, Cinderford.
