THE FOREST of Dean Relay for Life celebrated another successful year of fund-raising to fight cancer.

The 24-hour relay, which started at lunchtime on Saturday (June 27), was the culmination of a year of fund-raising by local teams for Cancer Research UK.

The event was again opened by Forest MP Mark Harper who also joined a tug o' war competition.

Forest supporters have already raised nearly £20,000 this year with more still to come in.

Julie and Less Cockle, of Forest Cycle Recycle, raised some £5,000 and also raffled two new bikes and sold refurbished bikes at the event.

There was also entertainment from local singers and musicians and Severnbanks Cygnets dancers from Severnbanks Primary School in Lydney.

The Forest of Dean committee's chair, Tess Tremlett, said: "We had 21 teams enter and it was a great success again."
