GARAGE boss Neil Poyner says village vandals and lack of policing could force him to sell up.

In the latest incident last week Mr Poyner, who runs The Victoria Garage, Newnham, had seven cars damaged on his forecourt. The total cost of repairs is estimated at £3,000.

"I really don't know where to turn. One car was almost new and had only done 14,000 miles. It was deeply scratched down one side and two panels on the other side were damaged.

"It is difficult enough to make a living at the moment without this sort of thing happening," he said.

The damage follows other bouts of vandalism at the garage – he has had a plate glass window smashed and bricks thrown through the windscreens of three cars.

In both incidents, he says, police had suspects but they were not taken to court and he received no compensation for the damage.

"I have moved to Soudley from Newnham but we may have to move back," he said.

"The only time you see a policeman is when you report something but obviously that is too late. When I lived in Newnham I could walk the dog and police the garage at night myself.

"We will either have to move back so that I can police it again or sell the garage. I don't want to do that but I have just about had enough," he said.
