SCHOOLS, groups and individuals had fun and set themselves challenges to raise money for Comic Relief.

Among the individuals raising money was eight-year-old Jayden Mayo of Caldicot who walked across the Severn Bridge with mum Catherine.

Jayden, a pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg y Ffin in Caldicot, dressed as video game character Mario while his mum transformed herself into an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the four-and-a-half-mile walk.

Catherine said: “I’m so proud of Jayden. The walk was his idea although he’s never done anything like it before.”

Jayden said: “I like helping people so I thought it would be a good idea to do something for Comic Relief.”

They set themselves a target of £100 but have collected £375.

The Dean Academy in Lydney raised £165 for Comic Relief and other good causes with a non-uniform day.

Mrs Fiona Price of the academy’s world affairs faculty said: “Our students have spent the day fundraising for various charities including Comic Relief. Money raised from the day will also go to Autism Awareness and to the Forest of Dean Sea Cadets who are raising money for a new roof.”

Pupils at Chepstow School got involved in a lip-sync and had to guess the identifies of teachers hiding beneath character costumes.

There was also lunch-time music from student band Bad Reputation and the day raised £605.
