DETAILS of the homecoming procession for Lydney Paralympians, gold med-

allist Andy Lewis and footballer Jack Rutter, have been announced.

Lydney Town Council told the Review last week it was working with Mr Lewis’s family but wanted to keep the finer details under wraps to not spoil the surprise.

Town clerk Jayne Smailes said: “We have been putting something quickly into place for Andy’s return from Rio.

“We wanted to keep all the details a surprise and for Andy’s family to tell him. We have agreed that Saturday, September 24 is the best day to host a homecoming celebration for him.

“An open top vintage bus will collect Andy in Hams Road at 3pm and make its way through the main high street before turning left into Whitecross Road, heading towards the Bathurst Park Coronation gates.

“Local primary school pupils, armed with union jack flags, will line the route from the gates to the pavilion where there will be performances by Lydney Training Band and free refreshments. The event will close at 4.30pm.

“We have also extended the invitation to Jack Rutter to join Andy on the bus and await a response.”

Mr Lewis won a gold medal in the men’s PT2 triathlon while Mr Rutter led Britain’s cerebral palsy football side to end the Games with a top six finish.

The Forest of Dean District Council is waiving the parking charges in two of its car parks in Bream Road and Newerne Street all day this Saturday.

Leader of the Forest Council, Cllr Patrick Molyneux said: “Congratulations to Andy and Jack on their outstanding achievements. We have decided to suspend car parking charges and encourage residents to support welcoming Andy and Jack home and celebrate their achievements.”
