I HAVE recently written to our local MP Mark Harper requesting the right to a referendum on whether or not the Forest of Dean's woodlands should fall into private hands.

It is my view that if Mark Harper truly believes in local democracy and the empowerment of local communities he should fully endorse such a proposition.

You see, twice before the Conservative Government has attempted to privatise what many local people believe to be a public good. By having a referendum I believe this matter could be resolved once and for all.

So I implore you, Mr Harper, in the spirit of the 'Big Society,' please support a referendum and allow the people a voice.
