PILLOWELL Silver Band (PSB) says they've run out of room on their trophy shelf after a triumphant clean sweep at a recent contest.
The band scooped seven trophies at the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own Choice March and Test Piece Contest 2014 in Ross-on-Wye.
PSB impressed adjudicator Paul Holland, musical director of the world-renowned Flowers Band, with the 'energy and detail' of the popular Goff Richards march, Barnard Castle. Mr Holland was also delighted with PSB's performance of the dramatic and evocative Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov.
As well as first prize trophies for both their march and test piece, Pillowell also picked up silverware for Best Trombone Section (Keith Digby, Jane Gething-Lewis, Brian Nelmes), Best Conductor for musical director Ian Whitburn, and Best Instrumentalist for Kristyann Symonds on soprano cornet.
Pillowell's Training Band, conducted by Kristyann Symonds, was thrilled to be rewarded for their first contest performance with trophies for Youngest Player (Beth/ Boo Moore, aged eight) and Band with Most Players under-14.
Ian said he was extremely proud of both bands, who will be performing their award-winning pieces at their first annual Christmas Cabaret Night Concert at Lydney Town Hall at 7pm on Sunday, December 21.
"I was very proud to conduct the band in such a fantastic performance," he said. "It's really nice that the hard work put in by the players has been rewarded. That we swept the board and won all the prizes is a testament to every single player and a fitting cap to what has been a great year for the band."
